Silent Sky

A few weeks ago I found out about this "Silent Sky Project" created by dutch artist Rob Sweere. It's a traveling social experiment that encourages people to spend 30 minutes of their day lying down next to friends and/or complete strangers- just to relax and experience the beauty of the skies together.

So far there have been 48 occurrences globally, all with different levels of participation. I want this to happen on the Boston Common this summer.

Back Into Beginners

It's about time I get some hiphop on this page. Fave fiasco song, so chill xx

Bucket Lists on Lists on Lists

Everyone has a list. THE list. The ultimate catalogue of things you'd like to do & places you'd like to go before you 'kick the bucket'

The most incredible thing about a bucket list is that each one is subjective. Lifelong to-do lists outlined like fingerprints in our minds. They're personal- and nothing is more beautiful to me than something personal. Learning about someone is the sexiest thing you can do without taking your clothes off. I'd say most of the time it's even sexier. What you dream of doing during your lifetime illustrates your candid desires... and it's what you actually choose to do that illustrates your passion.

On the train home tonight, I started writing it all down. Bullet points and arrow signs and pen marks galore. Here's what I came up with so far...

Play a musical instrument (ie violin, ukelele, drums, guitar)
Travel along a mountain range (and climb the highest peak)
Navigate a hot air balloon
Ride on a sleeper train
See Halley's Comet in 2061
Visit an Indian reservation
Learn how to surf (well)
Live on the west coast for a while
See earth from afar
Write a newspaper article
DJ a stellar live set with 100+ people
Sell a piece of artwork
Fly a plane
Be part of a flash mob/improv event
Learn to dance (swing, salsa, jazz, flamenco, hiphop)
Invent something fun and/or useful
Write and deliver a speech (ie TEDtalk)
Become a volunteer firefighter
Go to a multi-day music festival
Finish a triathlon
See the sunset in 2 places in one evening (flight)
Paint an autumn landscape
Visit every continent
Make a homemade quilt as a future heirloom
Spend time at a Buddhist temple
Reach Nirvana
See the Aurora Borealis
Film a documentary (about people and/or music)
Learn how to build a fire from scratch
Cook for a restaurant that has 4/5 stars on yelp
Graffiti something amazing, somewhere unexpected
Paint a city mural that people see everyday
Be the principal of a public school
Skydive, paraglide, bungee jump
Build a treehouse
Build a home (or multiple, including my own)
Design, construct, and fill a floor-to-ceiling library
Meet someone from every country
Save lives

In school I remember learning that the US Constitution is a "living breathing document". I like to think that applies to every bucket list too. I've written this out for myself more times than I can remember, and it's always a bit different. Some of the things I thought to put down I've already accomplished (ie getting a poem published, having art displayed in a museum, going to Europe, getting a tattoo), and others were entirely new to my eyes. It feels good to see it all.

Next step- start mapping out how to make it happen.

Cinematic Orchestra

Definitely one of the best songs ever created & this live version is exquisite.

Sober as October

my eyes found you
standing there across the tracks
waiting
beauty in your uncertain stance
waiting for something

so I called your name
took you back to my place
thought I could show you
what it feels like to be loved

hoping for fireworks
but all I got were sparks
extinguished by Stella Artois
and your lackluster words

feelings fading fast

my eyes found you
standing there across the tracks

when I called your name
you seemed unfazed
I was not the something
you were waiting for

guess we can still be friends

The World's A Rollercoaster

So what do you do when something you’ve been waiting to happen finally does happen? How do you feel?

In the past when a situation like that would occur, I would spend a lot of time overanalyzing details. I would be thinking of what went well, what didn’t go well, what could have been better. All thoughts/words/actions of the event would loop in my mind like a television marathon. Rerun after rerun.  As if somehow I expected to see or understand something new that I didn’t notice the first time.

The good news…

It’s been a big year/month/week for me in terms of self development, and I’m no longer thinking like that. Last night I had a wonderful night. No expectations, no analyzing, no clouds in my head. I just felt happy. Happy to be where I was and with the people that were there. For the first time, I felt present. I was mindful.

I am living in the moment.

It feels better than I ever knew. I haven’t let thoughts of last night take over my mind or my day. I’m not worried about anyone else’s opinions or reactions. I’m not thinking what could happen next. I’m not thinking of anything but the here and now. And in this moment I am happy.

White Blank Page

I need a place to stash my thoughts beyond my notebook.

It reminds me of the time I was lounging at the guys' apartment and we were sharing music. The most recent one I met works for Apple and was telling me how he has his whole music library published. Then we compared it to being immortal. All of that music and those playlists will live on infinitely through the internet, from computer to computer. How cool. Naturally, the geek within felt compelled to relate it to horcruxes. But the idea itself has stuck with me ever since. I guess that blogging, tumblng, tweeting... are all just ways to make us feel immortal? More significant?

Digress.
Decompress.
Daydream.

Here's to Summer 2012-
May the season bring wisdom, passion, positive thinking, good music & new experiences.
May there be an abundance of sunshine, thunderstorms, adventure, friends & creative projects.
Let it be the start to a beautiful journey.

Infinitely yours,
KSB
